Marijuana Medical Program (MMP)

The New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program (NJ MMP)

The New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program allows the use of medically recommended marijuana for the following conditions:

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Chronic pain or weight loss from cancer
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
  • Terminal illness, if the physician has determined a prognosis of less than 12 months of life.
  • Seizure disorder
  • Intractable skeletal muscular spasticity
  • Glaucoma
  • Positive status for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
  • Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Anxiety
  • Chronic Migraines
  • Chronic pain of visceral origin
  • Chronic pain related to musculoskeletal disorders
  • Tourette’s Syndrome


The following conditions apply, if resistant to, or if the patient is intolerant to, conventional therapy:

  • Seizure disorder, including epilepsy
  • Intractable skeletal muscular spasticity
  • Glaucoma


The following conditions apply, if severe or chronic pain, severe nausea or vomiting, cachexia or wasting syndrome results from the condition or treatment thereof:

  • Positive status for human immunodeficiency virus
  • Acquired immune deficiency syndrome
  • Cancer


Other Conditions not Recognized by the NJ MMP. The NJMMP is relatively restrictive and other states with legal medical marijuana have noted its efficacy in other conditions including;

  • Chronic neuropathic pain, including nerve damage, phantom limb pain, facial neuralgia, and post herpetic neuralgia
  • Nausea and vomiting from medication for the treatment of hepatitis C
  • Neuropsychiatric disorders, including tics associated with Tourette syndrome, neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD)
  • Autoimmune conditions, including arthritis and lupus
  • A debilitating symptom associated with a medical condition or the medical treatment of that condition
