Conditions We Treat
Adrenal fatigue is a metabolic imbalance characterized by deficient levels of cortisol and is known as hypocortisolism. Cortisol is a stress hormone and if you experience too much stress over an extended period of time, initially your cortisol levels can become elevated this is also known as adrenal stress (or hypercortisolism)
While cortisol is a hormone vital to your health, in excess, cortisol can lead to all sorts of metabolic problems including high blood pressure, high blood sugars (diabetes), osteoporosis, muscle wasting, depression, thyroid disease, dementia, fatigue, constipation, fibromyalgia, low sex hormone levels, cancer and many more.
Hypercortisolism is also known as adrenal stress and adrenal overload. Many people that are suffering from adrenal stress erroneously believe that they have adrenal fatigue (hypocortisolism)
Adrenal fatigue may occur after years (or decades) of hypercortisolism when your adrenal glands eventually fatigue (become tired) after working for too hard, too long. Low cortisol levels can lead to many different symptoms including low blood pressure, fatigue, anxiety, inability to handle stress, allergies, inflammation, arthritis, asthma, low blood sugars, sleeplessness, diarrhea, low sex hormone levels and many more.
The most important treatment for adrenal fatigue is to identify and eliminate the stressors that caused your adrenal glands to over secrete cortisol in the first place. These stressors include a low quality diet, poor lifestyle choices and environmental exposures to dangerous biological toxins. Some people that suffer from adrenal fatigue may benefit from hormone replacement therapy in the form of DHEA, pregnenolone, testosterone, estrogen or progesterone, depending on their individual metabolic needs. Adrenal Fatigue is extremely treatable; contact MD Wellness for a consultation if you are suffering from symptoms of adrenal fatigue.
