Electrohypersensitivity (EHS) is a state of heightened sensitivity to unnatural electromagnetic fields (EMF) that affects many chronically ill patients. Electrohypersensitivity (EHS) can manifest with various symptoms including fatigue, headaches, difficulty concentrating, muscle weakness, anxiety, depression, and many other insidious maladies. Electrohypersensitivity (EHS) is not a unique disease state, but actually a symptom of dysregulated homeostatic control mechanisms in your body.
Historically humans spent much more time outside exposed to 12-16 hours of pure unfiltered full spectrum sunlight on a daily basis. If there was light available at night, this light was from a fire that contains infrared, near infrared and red light.
Modern men and women very rarely spend much time outside, but instead are constantly being bombarded with unnatural lights from televisions, computer screens, “smart” phones and other gadgets. Making matters worse is the amount of “electrosmog” or “dirty electricity” that is created by electrical devices, power lines, Wi-Fi, microwave ovens and a myriad of other EMF producing modern conveniences.
Most patients that suffer from EHS have many other symptoms and most people that suffer from EHS have been diagnosed with other diseases such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Fibromyalgia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome, and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS). All of these diseases are chronic and inflammatory in nature.
Several common denominators underlie the development of chronic inflammatory disease states including Electrohypersensitivity (EHS). These common inflammatory factors include adrenal insufficiency, hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, fluctuating blood sugar levels, autonomic dysfunction, abnormal immune responses, acid-base disorders and dysfunctional cell-to-cell communications.
All of your organs and tissues in your body are made of cells and your cells each have a protective covering known as a cell membrane. Your cell membranes are activated/deactivated through electrical signals mediated through what are known as calcium channels. These channels act as “gates” providing your cells with the ability to selectively allow substances to get into and out of your cells and to allow your cells to “talk” to each other. These “gates” are known as voltage gated calcium channels (VGCCs). Your VGCCs are extremely sensitive to electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs), especially those frequencies in the microwave range. These microwave frequencies carry the signals of most “smart” devices, such as “smart” phones, and other “smart” appliances. Newer home heating and air conditioning systems utilize this technology to automatically control the temperature of your home in the hopes of reducing wasted energy. Unfortunately, these “smart” homes are making their occupants sick.
EMFs send signals to your VGCCs, which can result in much dysfunction at the cellular level, eventually leading to dysregulation and excess production of a substance known as inducible nitrous oxide (iNOS). Nitric Oxide acts as a neurotransmitter that participates in the learning process of specific parts of your brain. Once your iNOS is activated, it is more easily activated with subsequent signaling. iNOS activation is part of a vicious cycle that involves Nitric Oxide, NMDA receptors, inflammatory cytokines, production of peroxynitrate and NFKB. Once that cycle is initially activated because of certain physiologic states and environmental exposures, the vicious cycle begins, leading to a myriad of homeostatic dysfunction and subsequent chronic inflammatory symptoms. As your brain “learns” to react to various stimuli by creating an inflammatory response, less and less noxious stimuli are needed to produce adverse reactions. You become hypersensitive as inflammation manifesting as fatigue, headaches, difficulty concentrating, muscle weakness, anxiety, depression, and more - chronically beats you down.
There is no specific remedy for EHS; however, you can significantly reduce your reactions to “dirty electricity” by taking the following steps:
Do not have a router or access point in your bedroom. This is a place of restoration and repair. If you have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, frequency from your router may be the culprit. Furthermore, do not watch TV or use a cell phone a few hours prior to sleep. In fact, limiting usage of your cell phone is important.
You must be aware that almost any electronic device will produce EMFs including computers, lamps, cordless phones, and electric blankets and heating pads. A good “rule of thumb” is to disconnect all electrical devices when they are not being used.
There are a few products on the market that claim to reduce the deleterious effects of EMFs. I have personally used one type of product over the last 20 years called tachyon. These tachyonized products transform the disorganized, chaotic, unnatural EMFs emanating from electrical devices into frequencies and wavelengths that are much less harmful. These unique products can be applied directly to individual devices like your cell phone, but can also be used on your circuit breaker box to reduce harmful effects of EMFs from household electrical appliances. Additionally tachyonized products can be worn on your body to help protect you from the ravages of unhealthy EMFs.
Spend much time outside, away from harmful EMFs, but exposed to natural beneficial frequencies like sunlight and the frequencies coming from planet Earth. Have you ever noticed how well you feel after spending the day at the beach? Walking barefoot, especially if there is moisture on the ground helps conduct massive amounts of electrons from the Earth into your body. This electron transfer helps to clear out the negative effects of harmful EMFs. This is a method known as “grounding”, when you literally spend time with your bare feet touching the ground.
Beware of products on the market that purport to be “grounding” products that you can attach to your bed. If you “ground” yourself to the unnatural EMFs coming from your home, you will actually amplify the negative effects of the EMFs.
Unnatural EMFs are yet another form of stress that adversely affects your health. You must minimize other stressors in your life; proper diet, proper exercise, attention to healthy sleep-wake cycles, maintaining clean air quality and utilizing a metabolically directed wellness program can go a long way quieting down the “vicious cycles” that underlie the development of EHS.
