Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a name given to a group of symptoms pertaining to abnormal gastro-intestinal function.
Some of the symptoms include, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, gastro-esophageal reflux, abdominal pain and gas.
Often times IBS will be associated with other chronic functional disorders like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) , depression, anxiety and hormonal imbalances. The reason for this may be the presence of leaky gut syndrome.
Some of the underlying causes of IBS are poor glycemic control, autonomic dysfunction, dysbiosis, and other metabolic imbalances.
